local schools set to receive over $200 million in additional funding

She ROCKS It, located in Crest Hill, IL, started in 2017 by founder Joyce Dawkins. Dawkins said she created the organization to honor and empower women. She ROCKS It supports and acknowledges the success of women, promotes lifelong learning, supports non-profit organizations that help women live beyond their past and focus on rebuilding their future, promotes relationship-building among women, networking, partnership, and volunteering.

Wayne’s Words: Joliet quality water source means economic growth

Joliet has a 100-year agreement with the City of Chicago that caps the cost of future water rates. Included in that agreement, as pointed out here before, is a clause that Chicago cannot sell the water system to a private sector firm. That possibility has reared its head again at a recent Chicago City Council environment committee meeting. The committee voted down a proposed ordinance named “Water for All.” The proposed ordinance included a prohibition on privatizing the water infrastructure. In other words, the Chicago City Council, at least some of them might still want the option of selling the system.

Joliet’s new water study

The Joliet City Council earlier this year unanimously approved a $87 million bond issue, which is a portion of the $810 million project. The City of Joliet will share the costs with members of the Regional Water Commission that includes the communities of Romeoville, Crest Hill, Shorewood, Channahon, and Minooka. Following Joliet, Romeoville would be the next largest water user in the commission.

Joliet Water Commission moves forward with formation

The City of Joliet executed a memorandum of understanding at Tuesday’s Joliet council meeting for Romeoville to join the new regional commission that will bring water from Lake Michigan to several southwestern suburbs in Will County. In anticipation of Romeoville board approval, the community will become the sixth and final member of the Regional Water Commission that the City of Joliet began forming more than a year ago. By sharing the cost of water between the communities in the commission, it is believed that the source will become more affordable for residents.
