Scholarships for income-eligible students for year 2023
The Will County Center for Community Concerns is offering a limited number of $1,000 scholarships to income-eligible residents of Will County.
Will County Post Office to be renamed in honor of Larry Walsh Sr.
A longtime farmer, Walsh began his political career in 1970, at the age of 21, when he was elected to the Elwood School Board. Three years later, he was elected as Jackson Township Supervisor and served in the position until December 2004.
Will County new board sworn in
The new board is split evenly with 11 Democrats and 11 Republicans. Any tie votes will be broken by the County Executive, Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, a Democrat. Until the recent election when Board seats were reduced from 26 to 22, Democrats held a majority.

Blaique Morgan found guilty of first-degree murder in 2016 death of next-door neighbor
On January 7, 2016, the Will County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call by Bielec’s roommate stating that Bielec was severely injured and lying in their driveway. Officers spoke with Blaique Morgan who stated that he and his brother, Amari Morgan, went to Bielec’s residence to confront him about an ongoing dispute. An argument ensued, and Bielec was fatally struck in the head with a bat.
Flu season may impact blood supply
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts a serious spread of flu this year and is already reporting an early spike in cases in several states. When seasonal illnesses increase, the number of healthy donors tends to decrease, leaving the Red Cross blood supply vulnerable to a potential shortage over the holidays.
Big night for Democrats in Will County
Tuesday was a great night for Democrats in Illinois as incumbent Robin Kelly defeated GOP Thomas Lynch for the 2nd Congressional District seat that includes eastern Will County; incumbent Democrat Bill Foster retained his U.S. House 11th Congressional District seat that encompasses Joliet defeating GOP challenger Catalina Lauf; incumbent Democrat Lauren Underwood will keep her seat in the 14th Congressional District that was expanded through redistricting that now includes Joliet, Crest Hill, Shorewood and Plainfield.
Will County breaks ground on new morgue
The 11,460 square foot facility will replace an aging and undersized morgue with a new, purpose-built facility that also includes the administrative offices of the Will County Coroner. These functions are currently located in two separate facilities.
