Plainfield River Tubing, a local recreation business that arranges tube floats down the DuPage River, recently donated the proceeds from all trips taken on July 3 to the Friends of the Plainfield Park District Foundation. The $4,300 donation will support recreation facilities and programs for residents and families.
“We are so thankful to Scott and Kris Most and the Plainfield River Tubing Company for their incredible generosity,” said Emily Brooks, president of the Friends of the Plainfield Park District Foundation. “They are committed to providing fun, recreational opportunities on the river, and we completely support that.”
The Mosts, who have been Plainfield residents for more than a decade, opened Plainfield River Tubing during the pandemic to not only make it easier to float on the DuPage River, but also to offer people a way to enjoy nature while remaining safe and socially distant, according to Brooks.
The Foundation, formed in 1985, is a non-profit corporation that supports the Park District by fundraising and volunteering. Their mission is to improve the quality of life in the Plainfield area by assisting in the preservation of open space and enhancing recreation facilities and programs in the Plainfield Park District for people of all ages to enjoy.
The Plainfield Park District is the ninth largest park district in Illinois, and encompasses all of Plainfield Township, portions of Wheatland Township in Will County, and Na-Au-Say Township in Kendall County. It serves the communities of Bolingbrook, Crest Hill, Joliet, Plainfield, and Romeoville, covering more than 40 square miles and reaching over 100,000 people.
Jake Helinski of Plainfield, who normally goes tubing with his family at least twice per month, said the Mosts had a great idea to improve the communities the park district serves.
“On a nice weekend, the river is full of tubers, and it gets very crowded,” he said. “It is so nice of them to make such a substantial donation.”
Along with offering tube and paddle rentals, Plainfield River Tubing transports floaters to the starting point for their roughly 2.5-hour float down the river. Once at the end, floaters end up back where their cars are parked. For reservations or more information, visit their Facebook page or their website at https://www.plainfieldrivertubing.com.
