1% grocery tax to resume, gas tax to increase as new fiscal year begins July 1

Amid record-high inflation last spring, the General Assembly temporarily waived Illinois’ grocery tax for the coming fiscal year and delayed the annual increase in the state’s motor fuel tax for six months. Democrats introduced both those measures as part of a larger tax relief package that drew criticisms for its proximity to the November general election.

Including You annual Family Festival

As in years past, the festival will raise money for two worthy organizations that contribute to the betterment of lives in the Joliet community and Will County. Funds raised by the event will benefit the Fairmont Community Partnership Group in Lockport, which provides clothing, food, and other resources to those in need, and the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66 in Joliet.

Pritzker quickly wields expanded authority to freeze noncitizen health care enrollment

In a move that drew intense backlash from immigrant rights advocates, Pritzker on Friday signed House Bill 1298 then immediately filed emergency rules authorized by the law to “temporarily” pause enrollment in the Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults program as of July 1. That state-funded program serves individuals aged 42 to 64 years who would be eligible for Medicaid benefits based on income levels but not their citizenship status.

Cook County announces LeadCare Pilot program 

In partnership with Elevate, which for two decades has worked to create healthy environments for children to thrive, the county’s $15 million LeadCare Pilot Programwill help municipalities address chronic, aging infrastructure, disinvestment and inequity by offering free lead service line replacement to licensed home based childcare providers in suburban Cook County.
