Dedication of World War ll Submarine Memorial in Joliet
The City of Joliet would like to invite the public to attend a special Flag Day ceremony, which will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, at 30 North Bluff Street. A group of U.S. Submarine Veterans from the Northeastern Chicago area, USS Chicago Base, are dedicating a memorial to remember the 28 World War II Submarines that traveled through Joliet on their way to the Pacific theater. The monument will be installed at the existing Veterans Memorial, on the south side of Bicentennial Park.

Capparelli’s contract expires on July 12. The Council was open to the city manager remaining in the position as a search for his replacement is conducted but, Newly elected Mayor Terry D’Arcy said Capparelli opted to submit his resignation Tuesday morning. Capparelli was Joliet’s city manager since January 2021.
