The Takedown

For a movie that runs a hair under two hours, the pacing (editor Vincent Tabaillon, Taken 2 and Clash of the Titans) only lags in a few parts. The beauty of the region is well documented and action scenes are nicely captured (cinematographer Thomas Hardmeier, Yves Saint Laurent). Precincts, warehouses and strip joints look fine (production design Françoise Dupertuis, Molière). Sy’s blue collar clothes and Lafitte’s natty attire make sense (costume designer Camille Janbon, Lupin). Add in an appropriately dramatic musical score (Guillaume Roussel, Black Beauty) and you’re pulled into the investigation for the duration.

“Grief is Love: Living with Loss” by Marisa Renee Lee

More than 6,000 people die in the U.S. every day. You’re only concerned with one of them. “Grief is Love” helps you to endure.
It may take a little double-checking, though. Author Marisa Renee Lee uses so much of her own experiences in this book that help for grieving readers may not initially feel as forthcoming as you may wish it would be. Even so, there’s much to glean inside her tales because she’s honest about her journey, her various feelings, and the bumps along the road. Readers who are deep in the throes of grief will also be greatly comforted by her assertion that your person died but the love you shared never will.

Wine of the Week: Bortolomiol Grande Cuvee Del Fondatore Motus Vitae-$28

Bortolomiol Grande Cuvee Del Fondatore bracing, complex and bold. In short, it captures the spirit of Prosecco in a bottle. Terrific as an aperitif, it is even better with food. I spent an entire weekend pigging out on Sushi and Sashi in all its many forms; Make Sushi, Salmon Nigiri, Rice Paper Sushi, Spicy Tuna or California rolls, or alongside crisp, cool salads made with delicate greens, edible flowers flavored sesame oil vinaigrette and a side of Miso.
