President Biden Sounds Warning on Omicron Variant

NNPA NEWSWIRE — The White House earlier announced that the U.S. would restrict travel from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Malawi, and Mozambique. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has already declared a state of emergency, announcing that while the omicron variant hadn’t arrived, she expects it would soon.

African Americans, Democrats Say They Still Support BLM Movement

NNPA NEWSWIRE — Researchers conducted by the national polling site, Civiqs revealed that 44 percent of Americans support the Black Lives Matter Movement, while 43 percent said they oppose the campaign. Approximately 11 percent of respondents reported that they neither support nor oppose the campaign, which began in 2012 in response to a jury’s decision to acquit George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

COMMENTARY: Accountability was Evident in Arbery’s Case but No Justice

NNPA NEWSWIRE — Many of these murders are modern day lynchings and the evidence is swept under the rug. Ahmaud Arbery’s death was a case where one such incident existed. In this case there were three White men: Travis McMichael, 35, son; Gregory McMichael, 65, father; and neighbor, William Bryan, 52. In this case according to the District Attorney, it was not necessary to create a crime scene, or do a criminal investigation, because the three men were innocent.

IN MEMORIAM: A Salute to Edgar Brookins — ‘Mr. D.C.:’ Veteran, Omega Man, Long-Time AFRO employee dies at 74

NNPA NEWSWIRE — In addition to his work with the AFRO, Edgar Brookins used the latter years of his life to serve as an advocate for a number of health causes, including prostate cancer and lupus, both of which directly affected his life in major ways. Brookins was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016 and became an outspoken voice advocating for “brothers” to “get their annual screening from age 45 forward,” according to a biography Brookins wrote more than five years ago.
