Energy assistance program now taking applications
The Will County Center for Community Concerns (WCCCC), as administrator of the Home Energy Assistance Program in Will County, said funds are available to assist income-eligible households with their natural gas, propane and electric bills and furnace assistance. The program will began September 1, 2021 for all income-eligible households. Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis through May 31, 2022. There will be no priority groups this program year. Households in need are encouraged to apply.
New Coronavirus variant a ‘concern for health officials’
The World Health Organization announced it’s monitoring a new coronavirus variant called “Mu,” a strain that first surfaced in Colombia earlier this year.
“Mu is a variant of interest,” the WHO noted in a news release.
The variant contains mutations that indicate a risk of resistance to COVID-19 vaccines, health officials determined.
“The Mu variant has a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape,” WHO officials stated.
COVID vaccine required for Teachers, students and healthcare workers

As COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates across the state continue to increase, particularly in downstate communities with the lowest vaccination rates, Governor JB Pritzker and IDPH Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike have announced vaccination requirements for individuals in high-risk settings. All healthcare workers, including nursing home employees, all pre-k-12 teachers and staff, as well as higher education personnel and students will now be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Employees in all of these settings and higher education students who are unable or unwilling to receive the vaccine will be required to get tested for COVID-19 at least once per week, and DPH and ISBE may require increased testing in certain situations.
