Boys & Girls Club, Joliet receives new WiFi-Connected “Lift Zone” from Comcast
TTW Pressroom Comcast launched this week a new WiFi-connected “Lift Zone” at the G.W. Buck Boys & Girls Club of Joliet (GWBBGC) located at 226 E. Clinton St. Lift Zones are safe spaces where children can get online to do schoolwork and adults can get online to learn new digital skills, search for employment and access an array of services. The COVID-19 crisis put many low-income students and families at risk of being left behind and accelerated the need for comprehensive digital equity and Internet adoption programs to support them. The Lift Zones are part of a larger multiyear plan by Comcast to support community-organization-based WiFi at more than 1,000 Lift Zones throughout the country – including in the Chicago area.

Call for entries to Gallery Seven’s Illiart exhibit
Illinois artists of all kinds are invited to submit their work for inclusion in Gallery Seven’s Annual Illiart Exhibit taking place during October. Illiart, formerly known as “The Art of Illinois,” will feature various media, including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. For this event, the exhibit space will expand to include the Gallery Seven space on the second floor of the Gaylord Building and the gallery space on the third floor.

Rialto Square Theatre awarded $1,426,183 Shuttered Venue Operator's Grant
The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program was established to assist eligible organizations; local, regional, and national venues, promoters and producers in the effort to reopen after an unprecedented closure due to the pandemic. SVOG is administered by the SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance, which includes over $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues.
“The WCMEAA Board would like to thank the City of Joliet for their continued financial support of the Rialto Square Theatre’s operating budget in addition to S.T.A.R. Memberships and patrons. Their support positions us to utilize available funds to address long overdue theatre repair and maintenance as well as one-time capital improvement projects,” said Robert Filotto, WCMEAA Board President.
SVOG funds will be allocated to payroll, utility, insurance, repairs and maintenance, and other operating costs incurred during the pandemic while virtually no event revenues materialized.
