COMMENTARY: Biden’s Eloquence About George Floyd Will Ring Hollow If Rahm Emanuel Gets Ambassador Nomination

CHICAGO DEFENDER – After the meeting, Biden declared that the murder of Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer “launched a summer of protest we hadn’t seen since the Civil Rights era in the ’60s—protests that peacefully unified people of every race and generation to collectively say enough of the senseless killings.” The words were valuable, and so was the symbolism of the president hosting loved ones of Floyd on the first anniversary of his death.

The Clark Sisters Are Bringing Us Some Sunshine

JACKSONVILLE FREE PRESS – If gospel music had a Mount Rushmore, The Clark Sisters would be on it. With songs like “You Brought the Sunshine” and “Is My Living in Vain” in their repertoire, they’ve released 17 albums and garnered a collective three Dove, four Grammy and 15 Stellar awards, including an honorary James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Plus — can we get an amen? — they are the highest-selling female gospel group of all time. Even so, their testimony hasn’t been without some tests.

COMMENTARY: After Record Turnout in 2020, Texas Set to Pass Most Restrictive Voting Laws in the U.S.

Have You Seen Them? Missing People of Color Continue to Receive Less Priority Than Their White Counterparts

NNPA NEWSWIRE – Specifically, 156,000 African American children under 18 are missing and unaccounted. Most are forgotten, even by law enforcement officials charged with solving the mostly cold cases. The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) continues its series on the plight of missing African American girls and boys who have disappeared. Throughout the series, which began in 2019, a common theme emerged: Black children who go missing receive far less media coverage and police priority than White children.

COMMENTARY: Choose Confidence and Discipline Over Arrogance and Ego. It’s on You

NNPA NEWSWIRE – I just happen to believe that without spiritually based confidence and discipline, it is practically impossible to stand up to the daily challenges of life and the temptations that sometimes control our out-of-control behavior. You see, the good news of the gospel is that wherever the Holy Spirit chooses to take up residence, change must occur.

COMMENTARY: Black Men Must Talk About Drugs Ravishing Our Community

NNPA NEWSWIRE – It is no mistake that drugs are so prevalent in the Black community, that our children can direct a stranger were to purchase drugs. The most amazing thing about drugs in the Black community is that nothing is done, because everyone is scared, others don’t care, so it is accepted.

COMMENTARY: 100 Days of Biden-Harris

NNPA NEWSWIRE – I see the $6 trillion price tag on the Biden legislation as more of an investment than simple spending. A better-educated workforce earns more money, pays more taxes. A healthier workforce means less absenteeism, more efficiency, and productivity. Quality childcare means more women in the workforce —millions of women left in the wake of COVID. The investment makes sense to build our labor force back better.
