Local families are looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday
Unlike last November’s small gatherings, this week’s Thanksgiving celebrations across the country have many people saying “go big or go home.” As many in this country have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, residents in Will County are confident celebrating the holiday with family and friends will not cause medical issues for them. Marisha Jackson of Joliet said she plans to go all out this Thanksgiving. “Besides my family, I am having my cousins, aunts and uncles over,” she said. “I love to cook so this holiday is ideal for me. Last year, it was just my husband, myself and our two children. I would rather cook for a large group than a few. It makes the holiday much more special when we can pass the food around and share laughs.”

Infections Up in DMV, Vaccinations Remain Low in Black Communities
HOWARD UNIVERSITY NEWS SERVICE — Currently 59% of Washington residents are fully vaccinated, health department officials reported, but the numbers are much lower in Wards 7 and 8, two predominantly Black communities. he most glaring disparity is among Black children and other children in D.C. According to a Sept.16 study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, 72% of White children between the ages of 12 and 17 and 83% of Hispanic children have been vaccinated compared to only 24% of Black children.
Will County Health Department, local restaurants partner on pop up COVID-19 vaccination sites
In an effort to encourage residents to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and stop the spread of the deadly virus, the Will County Health Department is partnering with local restaurants to host pop up vaccination sites and give away free food to vaccine recipients. “We are grateful to Golden Corral Buffet & Grill and McDonald’s for the partnership in this important promotion to encourage COVID-19 vaccinations,” said Cindy Jackson, Will County Health Department vaccine coordinator. “This is a win-win situation. Will County is apparently not immune to the unfortunate politics of the COVID vaccine that has spread across the country like… well, a pandemic. Data has shown that most who are now ending up in hospitals suffering from COVID are the unvaccinated and most large numbers of cases are in states with low percentage of vaccinated individuals.
