OP-ED: Pursuing Martin Luther King Jr.’s beloved community

According to Dr. King, the creation of a beloved community would require the American people to address three great evils of society: racism, poverty, and militarism. My friend and former colleague, the late John R. Lewis, arguably Dr. King’s most ardent disciple, often invoked the concept to buttress his calls for a “just society.” John was committed to the pursuit, but I always wondered if such were possible until recently.

MLK family urge lawmakers to pass Voting Rights legislation

Prayer breakfasts, marches, parades, and an uptick in volunteer efforts to support the annual Day of Service have remained staples of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
But the late civil rights icon family had asked that observers strike a different tune in 2022.
King’s family requested no celebration unless federal lawmakers pass voting rights legislation, a task that appears out of reach as President Joe Biden and several Democrats have faced stiff Republican opposition.

First Anti-Critical Race Theory Complaint in Tennessee Targets Martin Luther King, Jr. Book

NNPA NEWSWIRE — Though “critical race theory” is a part of college level curriculum at law schools, the term has become a wide-ranging catch all in conservative circles. Many have loosely defined to mean any curriculum that includes efforts towards greater diversity and equity as well as discussions about how exclusion and bigotry has played a role in the shaping of American history and present-day events.

COMMENTARY: Always Right to Fight!

NNPA NEWSWIRE — After the horrific murders of some of our Asian sisters in Georgia, the press started asking whether or not the Black community would align with them to stop the senseless racist attacks against them spurred on by Trump and his merry band of White Supremacists.
