Will County reaches severe case level as Biden White House sends out free COVID tests
Will County has reached the Severe Risk level for daily COVID infections and positive test rates, according to county health officials. The most recent figures show the rate of new cases at 192 per 100 thousand population (total population 690,000), with a positive test rate of 22%. The vaccination rate remains at just over 70% of all residents with 1 dose or more of COVID vaccine. Hospitalizations, cases and deaths have experienced a sudden spike over the past 30 days after a slight decrease.

Black Educators Take on Hesitancy as Gov. Newsom Issues COVID Vaccination Mandate
THE SACRAMENTO OBSERVER — California’s school vaccination mandate will take effect for students enrolled in grades 7 through 12 one semester after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves the vaccine for children 12 and older. The mandate will also apply to children under 12 after a vaccine is approved for that age group.

African American COVID vaccine increases in Will County
Getting the word out to Blacks and Hispanics in Will County about the safety and efficacy of COVID vaccines has been a priority, according to county health department officials. A campaign involving reaching out to various community groups about the vaccine has been ongoing almost since the vaccines first became available. In March, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 144,149 had received the COVID vaccine in Will County. Black people in Will County accounted for 9,685 (6.72 percent of the total population) vaccines and 3,180 (or 6.87 percent of the total population of Blacks) received both doses of the vaccine. Hispanics in Will County accounted for 15,009 (10.4 percent) and 4,488 (9.69 percent) of Hispanics received both doses of the vaccine, according to the IDPH.

Will County is apparently not immune to the unfortunate politics of the COVID vaccine that has spread across the country like… well, a pandemic. Data has shown that most who are now ending up in hospitals suffering from COVID are the unvaccinated and most large numbers of cases are in states with low percentage of vaccinated individuals.
