Village of Plainfield to revamp Riverfront

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has awarded the Village of Plainfield a $284,500 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant for improvements at the Riverfront.

This project is part of the Village’s Riverfront Master Plan that was adopted in 2021.  It will include the construction of pergolas with seating, trail connections, and interpretive signage. These new features will be located just south of Lockport Street on the west side of the DuPage River. Trail users will now have a place to rest and enjoy the river while using the trail system. Interpretive signage will help to educate visitors about the DuPage River and its ecosystem.

“We’re thrilled to receive this grant which allows us to achieve the goals of the Riverfront Master Plan and provide the community with additional amenities along the DuPage River Trail. I appreciate the Staff’s hard work in pursuing grant funding for this important community project,” commented Mayor John Argoudelis.

Project construction is anticipated to begin in 2024.
