District 202 adds building security upgrades district wide

The budgeted capital improvement work will begin immediately and is scheduled to be completed when school opens in August 2023, said Dr. Glenn Wood, Superintendent of Schools.

College financial Aid & FAFSA workshop

This event will include a presentation that will cover average college costs, types of financial aid, and how to apply. There will also be a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion workshop.

State Board of Education issues guidance to combat school to prison pipeline

Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen I. Ayala announced the state's first guidance for school districts to ensure that disciplinary policies do not violate civil rights laws. The guidance is aimed in part at addressing the connection between exclusionary school discipline practices and increased rates of incarceration, often referred to as the school-to-prison pipeline.

Hastings measure to provide veteran dependents with scholarship assistance

State Senator Michael E. Hastings (D-Frankfort) passed a measure to create greater access to the MIA/POW Scholarship for children of veterans.

Joliet Public Schools Dist. 86 gold medal science winners

The junior high students who recently competed in the Joliet Public Schools District 86 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Extravaganza are winners.

School Dist. 86 host African American Wax Museum

In celebration of Black History Month, fifth grade students at A.O. Marshall Elementary School hosted a live wax museum, focusing on African Americans, at their school. In preparation of the event, the students researched, created a display, and wrote a narrative about a notable African American person. The students even dressed up like the person at the event.

USF nursing certification rate surpasses state, national average

The University of St. Francis (USF) recently announced that its Leach College of Nursing students’ pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) - Registered Nurse rose to 86% in 2021, which is an increase of 5% in comparison to 2020 (81%). The data is based on candidates completing the licensure examination for the first time upon graduation from an Illinois approved nursing education program. The average places USF above both the Illinois and national averages (both of which were 82% for 2021). Parent group presents mental health strategies program

District 202 will share easy strategies to strengthen mental health and wellness for both students and their parents at a community program at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022. The district 202 Plainfield Parent Community Network (PPCN) will present this special free program in the auditorium at Plainfield High School – Central Campus, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield. Student loan borrowers and advocates agree: Cancel student debt, 84% of student borrowers call for $50K debt cancellation

On May 1, the federal pause on student loan repayments is set to expire. One of President Joe Biden's first executive actions exercised his authority granted in the Higher Education Act. As the end of the extension nears, an estimated 44 million student loan borrowers and their collective $1.6 trillion debt will soon be affected. But a broad and diverse national coalition of more than 140 advocates is urging Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to take a further step: cancel student debt mired in its varied income driven repayment (IDR) programs. Black borrowers are a vocal part of the effort to eliminate the unsustainable financial burden.
