The Plainfield Foundation for Excellence presented the Niehus Award to Griffith at the District 202 Board of Education's July 25, 2022, regular meeting. The Foundation administers the Niehus Award on behalf of the Niehus family.
"We're thankful for the opportunity to improve and enhance one of the larger community parks," said Executive Director Carlo Capalbo. "We're always trying to find ways to enhance recreation opportunities in the district, and this state grant is a fantastic way to help make that happen."
The $52 million facility is built on an 11.92-acre site was funded by Pace using resources from the State’s Rebuild Illinois Capital Program. Pace joins the Village of Plainfield and Northern Builders, Inc. as part of their Depot Drive Public-Private Partnership, where Northern Builders, Inc. serves as the Design-Build Contractor to design and construct the facility.
The mission of Plainfield Pride is to promote the idea of equity for Plainfield, according to its Web site. "We are one community; we will foster a family-friendly, diverse, inclusive and equal community. We will lead the way in the community for all people regardless of orientation, gender, sex, race, religion, or ability (by) working to share common values, visions, and goals.
