The City of Joliet is reminding residents about the last week for yard waste pick up and yard waste collection guideline

Yard waste must be placed in either 30-gallon brown paper yard waste bags or in clearly labeled 32-gallon containers. Non-standard containers such as drums, baskets, etc. will not be collected. Residents can also rent or purchase 96-gallon yard waste carts by contacting the Waste Management Customer Service Center at (815) 280-7854.

Joliet residents pull petitions vying for mayor and council seats

As of Wednesday morning, Terry D’Arcy, Gregory Lee, and Tycee Bell have pulled nominating petitions for Joliet mayor. Incumbent Mayor Bob O’Dekirk in the spring said he would seek re-election, though he has yet to submit a nominating form. Candidates have until December to file petitions to run for any of the seats on the city council for the April election.

CBO’s ‘highly uncertain’ estimates fail to damper enthusiasm over student debt cancelation

The Biden-Harris Administration expects over 40 million borrowers to be eligible for its student debt relief plan, and nearly 20 million borrowers could see their remaining balance discharged.
In a Fact Sheet, the White House said nearly 90% of relief dollars would go to those earning less than $75,000 per year – and no relief will go to any individual or household in the top 5% of incomes in the United States.

Arnwine said there will be three national days of action to engage Black voters in every state. In Illinois, according to Betty Magness, Illinois political director, the National Black Voter Day was held on September 16th. “The mid-term election of 2022 will be a test of our democracy,” Arnwine said. “With the voting barriers that have been erected to dissuade, confuse and frustrate Black, Brown, Native American and young voters, the 2022 mid-term election will be the greatest challenge our democracy has faced.” However, Arnwine added, “The Black community has a history of overcoming evil and ill-will barriers to equality.”

State to reduce $1.8 billion federal unemployment debt by $450 million

“Our unemployment system is back on track and the balance of the unemployment trust fund continues to experience strong and steady growth,” Pritzker said Tuesday at a news conference in Chicago. “Thanks to Illinois’ economic recovery, the Illinois Department of Employment Security has advised me that the UI trust fund balance is sufficient enough to pay down another $450 million of its pandemic related debt.”
Pritzker said he expects the move to save the state about $10 million in interest costs.
